Iran to free US woman held on spying allegations

Iran says one of the three American hikers it holds on charges of spying will be freed this Saturday.

Sarah Shourd was seized along with Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal in July 2009.

The White House has always maintained the charges against the trio were unfounded:

“I would point out that, as we have said throughout this process, that these are three innocent children, innocent kids, who committed no crime, all three of them, who should be released, and released immediately, by the Iranian government.” said a spokesman.

Sarah Shourd will be released at the same hotel where the parents of the Americans were allowed to see them in May.

Their families insist their children were hiking in the northern Iraqi region of Kurdistan when they unintentionally crossed over the border.
