Sarrazin to leave Bundesbank

Germany’s central bank says board member Thilo Sarrazin, criticised for remarks on Muslim immigrants and Jews, has offered to stand down.

The Bundesbank says his resignation has been accepted and Sarrazin will be leaving at the end of the month.

In a recent book, Sarrazin claimed Jews had special genes and Muslims living in Germany preferred to live off welfare rather than work.

He denied that his views were racist.
