German Love Parade victims commemorated

A memorial has been unveiled to the 21 people killed during the Love Parade festival in the German city of Duisburg in July.

A bronze plague simply reads “Duisburg remembers the victims of the Love Parade.”

The head of the organisation behind the tribute says they hope it will help family members and friends see that the city is still mourning with them and wants to humbly express its grief.

More than 500 other revellers were injured when panic broke out as people tried to enter the festival site through a tunnel, and emergency services struggled to reach those crushed in the crowd.
