Row develops over UK intelligence expert's death

The mysterious death of a British intelligence expert at his flat in central London has reportedly led to a major row between the police and MI6.

Detectives say indications from the scene are that Gareth William’s death was carried out by professional killers.

Mr Williams’ decomposing body was found last week, placed in a sports bag in his bath.

Detectives are also investigating unusual payments made to his bank account. Three amounts of two and a half thousand Euro were paid in then withdrawn on consecutive days, the last on the eve of his killing.

Mr Williams’ family say widespread and lurid media speculation that the reason for his killing lies in his private life is an attempt to smear him.

Commentators say MI6 will almost certainly want to dispel the idea that his death was work-related and thus that any classified information he may have been privy to might have been compromised.
