The world’s most famous golfer Tiger Woods has spoken for the first time since his divorce two days ago from ex-wife Elin Nordegren.
Woods said he was sad about splitting from the woman with whom he has two children.
The Swedish model told a US magazine that she had tried her utmost to save their six-year marriage.
“I wish her the best in everything. It’s a sad time in our lives and were looking forward to (getting on with) our lives and how we can help our kids as best we possibly can,” Woods told reporters at a tournament in New Jersey.
Revelations the world number one had been cheating emerged last November.
At first, Woods declined to comment on the reports but he made a televised confession three months later.
The 34-year-old’s affairs lost him a number of sponsorship deals worth some 28 million euros.
Yet he remains the world’s richest sportsman, earning 70 million euros a year.
It is believed the split could cost Woods some 78 million euros in total.
