A forest fire on the popular Spanish holiday island of Ibiza has left two people injured and forced more than 1,500 people to be rescued from Benirras beach. The emergency services worked all Sunday evening to extinguish the fires but they continued to smolder.

Croatia was another country with forests ablaze.
The mayor of Solin, near Split, on the Dalmatian coast, said the damage to the area’s wooded oasis was huge.

A wildfire that that broke out on Saturday night on the Greek Aegean island of Evia, burned unchecked through Sunday. Gale winds kept fireplanes and helicopters grounded.
