Former Fugees rapper Wyclef Jean’s bid to be the next president of earthquake-hit Haiti appears to be mired in confusion.

Reuters reported Thursday that the country’s electoral commission had rejected the 40-year-old hip star’s application to run.

But Jean told CNN’s Larry King that the story was not true and that the list of approved candidates would be published Friday.

Officials are checking Jean’s eligibility as Haiti’s consitution states candidates must live on the island for five consecutive years before the election.

The rapper has lived in the US since he was nine.

Meanwhile, several hundred demonstrators marched outside the electoral commissions demanding fair elections and relief from poor living conditions.
