A senior Romanian diplomat has been arrested in Moscow accused of espionage according to the Russian security service. The FSB said Gabriel Grecu was caught ‘red-handed’ trying to obtain military intelligence from a Russian citizen.
The FSB, which emerged from the Soviet-era KGB, claimed Grecu was a member of the Romanian intelligence service working undercover as the First Secretary of his embassy’s political department in Moscow.
Romanian officials have not made any comment.
Grecu has been declared persona non grata and has two days to leave Russia.
