Germany’s E.ON has reported first-half operating profit that was better than had been forecast.

The world’s largest utility company said earnings before interest and taxes rose 11 percent to 6.1 billion euros.

However, adjusted net income in the first six months of the year was down by 1.2 percent because of higher interest payments and tax.

E.ON is trying to cut its debt by selling assets.
