Lost in space: objects go missing from ISS

Going on a spacewalk is difficult enough, but holding on to objects while floating in such a cumbersome outfit is something else entirely.

Two Russian astronauts have lost a tool and another small object, thought to be a washer, while carrying out maintenance work outside the International Space Station.

At first there was confusion about the flashes of something drifting off into space, but then relief when ground control worked out there was no danger.

The objects floated off below the ISS, and NASA says they should not represent a risk that space debris can sometimes pose.
