99th Wagner festival opens

VIPs have gathered in Bavaria for the launch of the 99th Richard Wagner Festival. This is the first festival since the death of the composer’s grandson Wolfgang, who led the top operatic event for many years.

This year the curtain was raised with a production of Lohengrin. The festival in the city of Bayreuth runs until August 28.
