Kurdish rebels have killed six Turkish soldiers in an attack on a military base in southeast Turkey close to the country’s border with Iraq, officials said on Tuesday.
The militants from the Kurdistan Workers party opened fire, triggering a gun battle which lasted until the early morning.
The incident happened in the Cukurca area of the southeastern Hakkari province.
It comes a day after 11 soldiers in the same area were wounded when their bus hit a roadside bomb.
The PKK ended a 14 month ceasefire in June. Its 26-year campaign to boost Kurdish minority rights has left more than 40,000 people dead.
