Train crash kills 49 in West Bengal

An express passenger train has crashed into another waiting at a station in eastern India killing at least 49 people.
Around 100 more were injured.

The impact of the crash saw several coaches rise up in a heap of mangled metal.

The accident happened when the Uttar Banga Express rammed into the stationary Vanachal express in West Bengal.

It is the second major accident in the region within two months. In May a train sabotage blamed on Maoist rebels killed more than 70 people.

In this case officials think a terrorist link is unlikely and an investigation has been launched into how both trains came to be on the same track.
