Smartphones boost Sony Ericsson’s profit

Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has posted a second consecutive quarterly profit.

The Swedish-Japanese joint venture benefited from a rise in sales of its expanded range of more expensive smartphones. It has also been cutting costs.

Second-quarter pretax profit was 31 million euros but the world’s fifth biggest handset maker remained cautious predicting only slight market growth this year.
