Dramatic footage shows the moment when suicide bombers attacked a crowded Shi’ite mosque in Iran, killing at least 28 people and wounding some 250 others.
The blasts scattered body parts around the site of the Grand Mosque in the southeastern city of Zahedan where a Sunni insurgency has been raging for years. Elite revolutionary guards were among those killed.
The Sunni rebel group Jundollah declared it was behind the twin blasts, saying they were in return for Iran’s execution of its leader, Abdolmalek Rigi, last month.
Tehran accuses its arch foe the United States of backing Jundollah, which says it is fighting for the rights of Iran’s Sunni Muslim minority. Washington denies the charge.
