Spain's World Cup fiesta goes on

Spain’s victorious World Cup squad have been given a heroes’ welcome on their return to Madrid as more than a million jubilant Spanish football fans continued the fiesta after the win in South Africa.

After a triumphant trail round the city in an open topped bus the team took to the world stage once again but this time not to demonstrate their soccer skills – more of a chance to show their dance moves.

Spain’s success at the World Cup is providing a welcome boost to morale in a country where one in five people is unemployed and the government has pledged deep cuts to balance the public books.

But the harsh reality of economic life can wait – now is the time for all Spaniards to party.
