Pictures of Fidel Castro making his first known public appearance in four years have been posted on a pro-government blog. The photos were taken with a mobile phone. They claim to show the Cuban revolutionary leader last Wednesday. He can be seen smiling and chatting at the National Centre for Scientific Investigations.
His country is back in the news as it prepares to free 52 political prisoners. In a deal brokered by the Catholic Church, they will all be sent to Spain.
Now the people are being freed, Cuban journalist Guillermo Farinas has agreed to end his hunger strike. His protest against the government’s treatment of political prisoners lasted 135 days.
