UK gunman kills himself after police stand-off

Britain most wanted man Raoul Moat is dead after a tense six-hour stand-off with police in the north of England.

The fugitive 37 year-old bodybuilder, nightclub bouncer and father of three, who bore a grudge against police, turned the gun on himself after being cornered in the picturesque Northumberian town of Rothbury.

Police have revealed using tazer gun on Moat. Northumbria Police Temporary Chief Constable Sue Sim said: “It appears the suspect shot himself. It appears no gun shots were fired by police officers. Right up until that time police officers were striving to persuade Mr Moat to give himself up peacefully. During this time officers discharged tazer.’‘

Moat was suspected of shooting his ex-girlfriend, killing her new partner and also shooting a policeman following release from jail.

After a week on the run, the final showdown saw intense police activity, with Tornado military jets in the air and trained negotiators on the ground.
