An oil painting by Turner has gone under the hammer for just over 35 million euros, a new record at auction for the British master.
The Getty Museum in Los Angeles beat five other bidders to acquire the 1839 artwork, ‘Modern Rome – Campo Vaccino’ at Sotheby’s in London.
Turner’s final painting of the Italian capital, it fetched far more than the expected sale price.
