Paul may be a great picker of football results, but can the two-year old octopus have foreseen the fate many Germans have in store for him? After correctly forecasting Spain’s world cup semi-final victory, the nation wants him grilled with lemon juice and garlic.
Maybe that explains why he was not in his tank on Thursday, perhaps cowering in terror ahead of his next prediction, Germany’s fate in the match for third and fourth place against Uruguay on Saturday.
“There will definitely be an oracle tomorrow. Paul will have a go at making a decision, and make a prediction about whether Germany will win third place. Then he also has to decide on the final. We have had a lot of questions about Paul’s future career, but I can’t say anything about that so far,” says his curator.
The English-born mollusc has become a global superstar; maybe we could have done with him in goal; a huge draw at Oberhausen’s “Sea life” aquarium, and a children’s favourite with lucrative spin-offs.
