Al Qaeda suspects held in alleged Norway plot

Police in Norway say three men said to have links to Al Qaeda have been arrested. They are suspected of planning at least one attack.

Two men were held in Norway and one in Germany. They were arrested just before nine o’clock this morning. It is not known whether the alleged plot was to be carried out in Norway or other countries.

The head of the Norwegian anti-terrorist police told a news conference that he believed the suspects were part of a group with links to people under investigation in Britain and the US. He said the matter concerned extreme Islamism.

Earlier this year police described the terror threat in Norway as “worrying”, and said that certain Muslim groups had become more radical.
