More than 220 people have died and at least a hundred injured after a fuel tanker overturned and exploded, engulfing a village in flames in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The UN now now says initial reports that several peacekeepers were killed while trying to stop people going near the burning lorry were not correct and none of the organisation’s personnel have been killed.
The lorry was on its way from Tanzania when the accident happened at a border village in South Kivu province.
The provincial governor says many of those who were killed or injured were inside their homes watching the World Cup match on television.
Rescue workers are warning the number of dead is continuing to rise.
