Rio de Janeiro’s iconic statue, Christ the Redeemer is back in plain view for all to see after a four month renovation.
Scaffolding had for a while encircled the mountain top monument as workers repaired its eroded face and hands.
To mark its reopening local bishops celebrated mass.
The 40 metre Christ is considered one of the world’s seven modern wonders.
Its nearly four million euro renovation, was funded through public and private donations.
The Archdiocese of Rio that manages the statue says it will be bathed in yellow and green light in the evenings hopefully as a beacon to inspire the national football side at the World Cup.
