Half-Scot elected regional premier in Germany

A half-Scottish politician has made history today, becoming the first person with dual nationality to become premier of a German state.

David McAllister won election, in the regional parliament of Lower Saxony, to replace Christian Wulff, now that he is the country’s president.

The 39-year-old also becomes Germany’s youngest state premier.

Nicknamed “Mac”, he was born in Berlin to a German mother and a soldier in the British army.

A rising star of Chancellor Merkel’s CDU party, some believe David McAllister could rise to the very top of German politics one day.
