There have been ecstatic scenes in Madrid, as Spain defeated Chile 2:1 in the first round of the World Cup.
The team has advanced to the last 16 and fans are optimistic about their chances.
“They haven’t been bad but I expected another goal,” one fan said. “They haven’t been great, but I am happy that they won.”
“I think that Spain is going to win because Portugal is not in good form at the moment,” another fan said.
Spain will now face Portugal in the second round in Cape Town on Tuesday.
Chile might not have won their last match of the first round but you would never know it from the celebrations.
The team still managed to qualify for the knock-out round. They will play Brazil on Monday in Johannesburg.
Still there were tears before bedtime after a few fans began throwing stones and beer cans at police.
The authorities brought out water cannons, tear gas and riot police to clear the streets.
