They are Latin American legends.
A group of ageing musicians known as the Buena Vista Social Club brought Cuban rhythms to a global audience. And while some of the band’s best-known stars have now died, original members will be joining newcomers for Buena Vista’s first US tour since 2003.
The 2010 line-up is looking forward to playing for American fans.
“The band is still the band,” said original member Barbarito Torres. “Despite having young members, we continue to make the same music, salvaging what was done before.”
Band member Amadito Valdes added: “It has been seven years since we went to the United States and we hope to share with the American public again because we have always been very successful over there, so that they can get to know the new work we are doing with the Buena Vista Social Club, with new band members.”
American fans have embraced the Buena Vista sound, despite difficult US-Cuban relations. And if you are on the other side of the Atlantic, do not despair. After the States, the band is heading to Europe to play 25 concerts there.
