Secretary General of the Arab League, Amr Moussa has called for an end to Israel’s blockade of Gaza.
The top Arab diplomat was on a visit to the Palestinian territory, his first since Hamas took control of the strip in 2007.
Amr Moussa also urged Hamas and Fatah to restart reconciliation talks:
“The Palestinian people must be united and that’s a decision which is in the hands of the Palestininans. They must show a willingness to realise this goal,” Moussa said.
To avoid any impression of Arab League recognition of Hamas’s Gaza takeover, Moussa discussed the Israeli embargo with Hamas’s leader in his home rather than in his office.
Israel says its conducting its own internal investigation into the events surrounding its raid last month on a convoy of Gaza-bound aid ships. By way of a concession two foreign observers will be included.
