BP’s Chief Executive Tony Hayward has said no decision has yet been made about whether it will pay a politically-sensitive quarterly dividend on its shares.

Those shares rose on Friday following supportive comments from the British government hitting back at BP bashing from the White House.

The stock was up despite news that the Gulf of Mexico spill is much bigger than previously estimated.

The British finance minister said: “We need constructive solutions and to remember the economic value BP brings to people in Britain and America.”
