At least 40 people are dead and close to 80 injured after what appears to have been a suicide bomb attack on a wedding party in Afghanistan.
Police say the attack happened near the southern city of Kandahar. They say a man walked into the party carrying explosives and blew himself up.
Many of the guests at the wedding reportedly had links to local police officials or a local militia.
However, a Taliban spokesman has denied responsibility for the killings, putting the blame on Nato-led forces.
NATO says it was aware of the blast and its forces helped in follow-up operations. But it says the incident was a matter for Afghan authorities.
Rural weddings can often be raucous affairs, accompanied by celebratory gunfire, and they have been mistakenly attacked in the past by foreign forces.
