Even though the opening match is not until Friday, the first big event of the 2010 football World Cup is underway in South Africa.
Supporters of the national team, fondly known as the “Bafana Bafanas” or “boys” in Zulu, have paraded through Johannesburg ahead of their clash with Mexico on Friday.
Race still defines sport in South Africa, with rugby played mainly by whites and football by blacks.
But no one seems to care about colour today. Everyone here is supporting South Africa.
“ I am so proud, I don’t want to be anywhere except for here. Gosh I am just excited, I am excited” one supporter told Euronews.
And, if the party is big today, imagine what it will be like if South Africa win their opening match this Friday.
