GM to recall 1.5 million vehicles

General Motors is the latest carmaker to suffer an expensive recall.

It is going to have to disable an electrical unit that heats windscreen washer fluid on more than 1.5 million of its vehicles – mostly big 4×4s.

There is a risk that the heaters could catch fire. That has happened on five occasions in the last year but GM said there had not been any crashes or injuries.

It is not clear how much the recall will cost.
