Greenpeace claims French fishermen have injured one of its activists with a hook during a clash in the Mediterranean. It came as environmentalists protested over blue fin tuna fishing.
Greenpeace says its members confronted a flotilla of boats from the French port of Sete, and tried to free fish from the net of one of the vessels.
It accused the fishermen of attacking the activists’ inflatable dinghy, badly injuring the leg of one protester who had to be taken to hospital in Malta.
The move follows the failure earlier this year of attempts to ban the world trade in bluefin tuna, whose stocks are said to have fallen by 80 percent since 1970.
