UK gunman had firearms licence

It has been revealed the gunman who killed 12 people and then shot himself in Britain had been a licenced gun holder for 20 years.

Police are trying to work out what drove taxi driver Derrick Bird to go on a rampage through towns in the Lake District in the northwest of England.

One report says Bird had been seen arguing with other taxi drivers on the night before the shooting spree, and there may have been a dispute over a family will. A lawyer has been confirmed as one of the victims.

As well as the 12 dead, 25 others were wounded. Three people remain in a critical condition in hospital. Police had to deal with crime scenes in 30 different locations.

Multiple shootings are rare in Britain where there are strict gun controls. Yesterday’s rampage was the worst in 14 years.
