Israel deports aid activists

world news

| |

Israel has started deporting activists arrested onboard the Turkish aid flotilla that tried to breach its three-year blockade of Gaza.

More than 120 of them were sent to Jordan where crowds gathered to welcome them. Hundreds more are set to be deported later today.

There were an estimated 35 nationalities amongst the convoy’s 700 passengers.

At least ten activists died when Israeli troops stormed the six-ship flotilla early on Monday.

Israel said the marines acted in self defence, but the organisers of the convoy have denied that version of events.
