There are mixed reactions so far to the explanations from US officials and BP. Residents in the areas affected say they want more action from President Obama.
One woman said: “I guess I’ll feel better when he does come down and actually see what’s not being done here. If they don’t bring more help the damage is going to be unreal. It’s beyond all of our imaginations, I think.”
A man said: “I don’t think the federal government is doing a whole lot. The spill was an unfortunate accident which could occur again. I really think that the petroleum companies, as big as they are and as much as they make, should have planned ahead for something like this, you know, to happen.”
The US President has already said that BP will be held fully accountable and will “pay every dime” of the damage.
