It has been 45-years since they have been able to get their hands on European football’s most highly sought after prize, so Inter Milan did not want to wait too long to display the Champions League trophy.
The team arrived back in Italy in the early hours of Sunday morning after their historic victory over Bayern Munich.
And as the sun rose over the San Siro stadium they showed off the Cup to some 35,000 fans eager to celebrate the climatic glory of a remarkable season.
However, the architect of Inter’s fortunes, Jose Mourinho, was conspicuous by his absence.
Amid increasing speculation he has already agreed to join the world’s biggest club Real Madrid, the Portuguese coach stayed over in the Spanish capital.
But given the collection of titles he has brought the club, he could be let go with the best wishes of Inter’s President, Massimo Moratti, who may reportedly waive a 15-million euro compensation fee as a thank you to Mourinho.
