Death toll from Polish flooding rises

The death toll from severe flooding in Poland has risen to 12.

The country seems to be the worst affected by flooding that has hit many parts of eastern and central Europe.

Water levels in some parts of Warsaw are reported to have reached almost eight metres, well above the emergency level of 6.5.

Meanwhile, flooding alerts have been issued in the German region of Brandenburg.

The European Union activated its civil protection system on Wednesday, enabling EU assistance to be given to those areas worst affected.
