Palestinians step up boycott of settler goods

Palestinians have stepped up a campaign to persuade West Bank residents to shun merchandise produced by Israeli settlers.

Hundreds of volunteers dressed in white T-shirts have been distributing brochures with brand names and photos of some 500 goods included on a banned list.

The volunteers target locals, explaining why not to buy the products. The idea is to starve Israeli settler businesses of a livelihood.

Last month, despite high unemployment rates in the West Bank, President Mahmoud Abbas signed a law barring some 20,000 Palestinian labourers from working on settlement projects.
