Riots mar Barca football celebrations

There have been heated scuffles in Barcelona as celebrations among football fans turned ugly.

As FC Barcelona clinched their 20th domestic league title, tens of thousands of Catalans spilled onto Las Ramblas, the city’s main thoroughfare.

But soon after midnight, fighting broke out between police and fans who had reportedly begun to vandalise advertising hoardings.

Riot police charged and fired rubber bullets at supporters, who responded by throwing bottles and stones and setting light to bins. Several arrests were made.
