Weaker euro boost EADS shares

Shares in Europe’s largest aerospace firm EADS rose on Friday to their highest in eight months despite sharply lower first-quarter earnings.

That is because it gets paid for its Airbus planes mostly in dollars and the euro is weakening against the dollar.

As well as the currency problems, the A380 superjumbo is losing the company money.

Operating profit at EADS plunged by nearly two thirds to 83 million euros.
