UK manufacturing grows

Manufacturing activity in Britain grew last month at its fastest pace in more than 15 years.

A survey of purchasing managers showed a surge in new orders, particularly from overseas, helped by the weak pound.

The figures boost hopes that the broader economic recovery is gathering momentum.

It was good news for the Labour government which is trailing in opinion polls before this week’s national election.
