A man has been detained over the failed Times Square bombing in New York.
It is understood the suspect was arrested trying to leave the country.
He is said to be from Connecticut, a naturalized US citizen from Pakistan and is thought to have bought the SUV used in the attempt.
It remains unclear if he is the same person captured on security camera footage trying to change his t-shirt whom authorities also looking for.
A street vendor alerted police after noticing the vehicle with its engine running and its hazard lights flashing.
Inside it contained a home made bomb, packed with fertiliser, fireworks, petrol and propane gas.
A Pakistani based group, with suspected inks to the Taliban, says it was behind the attempted attack, a claim US authorities have been unable or unwilling to confirm.
