The opening of a major UN conference to review the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty has been overshadowed by the appearance of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad.
Ahmedinejad was the only head of state to attend the meeting in New York.
In his speech to delegates, Ahmedinejad accused the West of double standards by punishing Iran for its nuclear program while allowing other countries to develop their own.
The West is convinced Iran wants to develop the capability to produce atomic weapons. However, Tehran strongly denies this, saying instead that the project is for purely civilian purposes.
