A Tornado nearly a mile wide has left at least ten people dead, including three children, and dozens injured in the southern US state of Mississippi.
Four people are said to be in a critical condition.
The storm ripped through scores of homes, trapping people inside. Many businesses were also flattened and thousands were left without any power.
The state’s governor has declared a state of emergency.
The tornado, the first major twister this year, struck at least 17 counties in Mississippi.
For those caught in the storm, it was a terrifying experience.
‘‘The roof was caving in, the TV was flying off the shelf. Anyway, it was horrible, it was just really bad,’‘ said one man.
Authorities say the extreme weather system is also hitting the states of Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky.
