Iceland’s volcano steps up eruptions

Only hours after European Union transportation ministers agreed on a plan to ease restrictions on airliner traffic, the British National Air Traffic Service has reported the volcano’s eruptions have strengthened.

The intensified activity seems to have produced another cloud filled with the ash which is such a potential menace to jet aircraft.

For Icelanders near the volcano, conditions are difficult. Police have said there is almost no visibility, as the ash has saturated the air and covered agricultural fields with a layer of dust.
