European travellers stranded in Asia

Many European air travellers trying to fly home from Asia remain marooned in airport lounges.

Flights continue to be cancelled despite EU members states agreeing to partially lift the blanket airspace ban over much of Europe.

A handful of aircraft have managed to take-off from Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.

Peter Yager from Germany said: “Yes, we are very happy now that we have a chance to go to Europe. So we are very happy.”

Sia Kasch said: “I was originally supposed to leave on Friday at the same time but the flight was cancelled. That is why I spent the entire weekend trying to find alternative flights. Aeroflot via Moscow, Qatar via Doha. Much hoping, many alternatives, but nothing came out of them. Now I hope this one will leave.”

Five flights bound for London, Paris, Rome and Munich from British Airways, Lufthansa and Air China are scheduled to leave Beijing today, but at least 18 flights to and from European cities have been cancelled.
