Surprise profit for Sony Ericsson

Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has posted a surprise pre-tax profit in the first-quarter of 18 million euros.

That was down to major cost cuts and a push into the growing smartphone market.

However sales revenue was down 19 percent from a year ago and analysts warned the company’s difficulties are not over yet.

Before this profit Sony Ericsson had been in the red for seven straight quarters.
