A safety warning has caused Toyota to temporarily suspend sales of one of its four-wheel-drive vehicle in the US and Canada.
It is a fresh blow to the reputation of the world’s top carmaker.
A highly respected American consumer magazine said its tests showed that there was a danger of the Lexus GX 460 rolling over on turns resulting in serious injury or death and it urged people not to buy the vehicle.
This follows the massive recalls of Toyota cars problems with sticky accelerator pedals; that hit sales and led to production halts.
Toyota said its engineers are now “vigorously testing” the vehicle and the US government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is also checking it.
The GX 460 has been on the market for just four months.
Toyota has not yet made a decision on suspending sales in the other places were it is available, that is Russia, the Middle East and countries around the Pacific including Australia.
