The Polish President of the European Parliament led tributes to his fallen colleagues during an emotional session this morning.

Ninety six Polish officials died in last Saturday’s plane crash in Western Russia, including President Lech Kaczynski.

“The messages of support I have received from some many people have given me and my country some strength and comfort, I appreciate this and I’m proud, we can be proud, in how my nation has reacted,” said Jerzey Buyek, the European Parliament President.

“It was an unprecedented castastrophy, they perished serving the country on the way to commemorate thousands of Polish officers killed during II world war in Katyn. History has dramatically come full circle. We have been touched by the Russian reaction,” he said.
