Swiss bank posts big quarterly profit

Switzerland’s biggest bank, UBS AG, reported its highest quarterly earnings in almost three years.

First quarter pretax profit passed 1.7 billion euros. That is the highest pre-tax result since the second quarter of 2007.

UBS posted big losses during the credit crisis shedding around 20 billion euros second only to the Royal Bank of Scotland.
